Sam Forgan:
Posture plays a big role in your swing consistency. Get low and loose like you would be if you were playing another sport. Don't set backside too far behind the heel line. You should start with straight legs and then gently shift you weight forward to establish the right knee flex for an optimal setup.

You do not necessarily need to always keep your back perfectly straight. Finding a comfortable position that allows you to rotate freely is much more important. Do this by finding balls of feet where you’re mobile. This will help you find an effective swing that you can replicate over and over. Once you’ve found that spot, softly flex your knees and let your arms hang loose.

When you are standing over the ball, if your head is pointed straight ahead you are forced to use your peripheral vision to look at the ball. You can easily solve this by tilting your neck and looking directly at the ball. In that case, the ball would be within your central vision.

When hitting drives, the goal should be to hit the ball upwards. Think about the golf swing like it’s a pendulum. If you set up like you would for an iron shot, the ball would be at the bottom of the pendulum. Instead, you want the ball to be located at a point in the pendulum where the club is swinging upwards. Therefore, you want to shift the ball position closer to your lead leg.

Players often make the mistake of pushing the ribcage and pelvis open a little when putting their trail hand on. Instead, you should start by squaring yourself to the target while only having your lead arm on. Once you are squared and have on hand on, you can slowly put your trail arm on while keeping everything square.

This is an easy routine that will teach you how to correctly stand to an iron shot. Start by lowering your club until it’s parallel to the ground while your feet stay together. Next, change your stance to one that is shoulder-width apart. Lastly, all you need to do is tilt forward with your hips until the club hits the ground and then slightly bend your knees.
