Bryan Dougherty | Firm Sand vs. Fluffy Sand
There are typically two types of sand in bunkers: fluffy sand and firm sand. Firm sand is where there is not much sand in the bunker. For firm sand you want to have a square face, steep hinge, and a short follow-through. The goal is to trap some sand between the club and the ball. Fluffy sand is when there is a good amount of sand. You want to open the clubface more, close the stance, and have a longer follow-through. The goal is to trap as little sand between the club and the ball as possible.

Jayson Nickol | How to Play 30-80 Yard Bunker Shots
This is an awkward bunker distance. It isn't a full shot, but it's also not a greenside bunker. A tip is to reimagine where you are. Imagine you are at a tight fairway lie where you can't take pick up a lot of grass. To help with that, you want to load your front foot. Sort of imagine it as a pitch shot.

Patrick Bigelow | Downslope Bunker Shot
A downslope bunker shot is quite tricky. There are a few things to do setup and technique-wise that can help. First, open the clubface but don't lower the handle too much. Open your knees towards the target. The backstroke should be a short arc. You want a long follow-through with the club close to the ground.

Richard Rice | Loft Direction Consistency
You shouldn't set up with an open stance in the bunker. If your club is open at address to allow for bounce the loft will naturally point to the right. You can offset this by lowering the handle. This will make the loft go upwards instead of to the right.

Dominic Azzopardi | Don't Leave Club in the Sand
A common fault is leaving your club in the sand. You need to hit through with force. In a practice bunker, hit forceful swings that get lots of sand out. Once the ball is on the green you want to see some sand with it.
