So this was not the first Dessa/RGU vid I had in mind, nor the first, second, or third idea I had for a CFS editing event I participated in this July. But after getting to see her in concert and scream "motherfucking vigilance" at the top of my lungs, I decided to play around with this pairing idea just to get a rough vibe for what I could do. And then I kept playing and kept playing, and then I rode that vibe to here.
But to be more clear I have wanted to edit a specifically feminist vid about Utena like some of my inspos linked below. There really are few things like it that showcase the intricate complexities of each individual and the overwhelming force that is Ohtori's patriarchy structure. Originally the idea was to be mostly be an Utena chara profile that transformed into a look at all women at Ohtori, but I didn't have much time to really workshop structure bc of my deadline and instead it transformed more into a dual portrait of how Utena and Anthy individually cope with patriarchy. Overall I still think it worked out thanks to my encyclopedic knowledge of RGU scene selection and bc thematically neither Girl-Princes nor Brides can escape the fate of a Witch.
