How do I change strings on a guitar with a Floyd Rose system?
Obviously, if the gauge of the new strings is the same as the old ones, we change them one string at a time, without removing them all at once.
But in this case (in the video), we'll change the string gauge from lighter to heavier.
Step 1:
Block the Floyd Rose with an object of a suitable thickness. In this case, a piece of plywood. Place it between the keel and the wood.
IMPORTANT: The plywood thickness should be chosen so that the Floyd Rose's frame is visually parallel to the guitar body.
Step 2:
Since the new string gauge is heavier, tighten the springs more firmly by tightening two screws.
Step 3:
Remove all the old strings and install new, heavier gauge strings. Next, tighten the scale.
Step 4:
Once the new strings are tuned using the tuner, slowly loosen the springs by unscrewing the screws. Continue this until the tremolo blocker begins to freely fall out of the space between the fin and the wood.
The guitar is now tuned, and the system is unlocked.
Step 5:
Tighten the top clamp (the upper string clamp) and adjust the micro-tuner.
