How can a guitarist play harmonics outside their usual placement on the guitar neck?
Let's look at the technique:
Touch, but don't press, all the strings above the 9th fret with the index finger of your right hand.
Use hammer-ons and pull-offs with your left hand to produce harmonics, interspersed with dead notes, at the second and fourth frets.
If desired, move the index finger of your right hand from the ninth fret to the seventh – this will also change the sound of the harmonics.
