Okay, so using a monitoring tool for your online marketing, in particular for your social media is a really good way to make intelligent choices about the channels and the people and the interactions you’re having.
A monitoring tool is an online tool where you can use a series of keywords or phrases that epitomize your business
or your brand or your industry. The tool will then search for those keywords or phrases on a daily basis pulling in the direction of the right channels and where those conversations are happening. So, they are incredibly useful for all different kinds of businesses, but let’s look at three types of businesses that you might want to particularly engage the monitoring tools.

The first is if you’re a start-up. If you’re just starting a business and like many people you don’t know where to start when it comes to your online marketing or your social media marketing, you can use the monitoring tool to look for where the conversations about your kind of product are happening to give you far more intelligence
about where you want to point your budget or point your resources when it comes to, in particular, social media marketing.

The other option is if your a business entering a new market. If you’ve got a new product and it’s slightly different market; it may not be a completely new market but it may
be just a slightly different angle to a slightly different customer. Using keywords or phrases that epitomizes what you do and looking for where the conversations about that
are happening is very valuable. For new markets or for anyone looking to reassess the success of their marketing. If you’re not having a lot of success with your online marketing it may well be that you’re just going about it incorrectly and you’re talking or interacting with the wrong people.
So, using a monitoring tool to look at what conversations people are having is a good way of redirecting your efforts, if you like.

So, just to explain what it is, a monitoring tool, as I said, uses keywords to go out there and search what conversations people are having on loads of different social media channels, so
things like Twitter and Instagram. Lots of public forums; so if there is a particular forum related to your industry that you may not be aware of, it will search those forums to find keywords or phrases that epitomise your business or your product. It looks for things in the news, it
looks for blogs etc. So it then enables you to engage with those people, and these are the four reasons why using a monitoring tool is very valuable.

Social media and online marketing is not just about posting and forgetting. It’s about interacting and engaging with people. And actually, by using a good monitoring tool you can
look at the key thought leaders and the key people in your industry and interact with those individuals, gain their opinion, gain their influence. That’s a very valuable way of
making your social media and your online marketing efforts skyrocket.
It also allows you to look at what the competition are doing. So, if you’ve got a particularly strong competitor that’s doing very well, you can assess and see what online marketing, what conversations, what blogging they are doing. You can see what’s working for them, and frankly, what isn’t. So, you can look at how much interaction, a key word or phrase that links to your
business has and whether you should be doing that or frankly, whether you should be doing the polar opposite.
When you’re up and running as a business you can also use it to look at your brand. So look at how many times your brand is being mentioned, how many times people are interacting with your brand, with your blogs, quoting your brand over phone…
