Natural Lighting : How to Achieve a Cinematic Looking Documentary | DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING
What makes a documentary cinematic? How to make a documentary look like a movie? These are some questions I've been asking myself since I started making documentaries... For the past few years we've seen a significant rise of documentary films, some people even call it the ''golden age'' of documentary filmmaking. This is thanks to streaming platforms like Netflix that made the medium much more accessible to wider audiences. But I don't think that's the only reason for this growth. There also seems to be a great improvement of the production quality and storytelling techniques used to portrait these stories. But there are several elements that contribute for a ''cinematic'' looking documentary, and today I want to talk about one of those elements, lighting (more specifically, natural lighting).
