about the composer
James Collins is an accomplished music composer for film and television, as well as of original production music.
James studied music composition and sound design at Southern Cross University and AFTRS (Australian Film Television & Radio School). Since graduating, he has worked on award winning plays where he refined his understanding of storytelling, drama and comedy that has helped define his musical voice. He proceeded to work on short films, documentaries, and television series where he has been nominated for multiple awards. His original guitar compositions are a rich tapestry of sounds and rhythms.
James picked up his first guitar when he was 9 years old and has been playing a plethora of musical instruments since, including strings and percussion - sounds which feature primarily on this album.
Influenced by the early hip-hop era of the 80s, James began each track on this album with the ‘beats’. Secondly, he would layer in the pizzicato strings, mallet percussion and various electronic synth sounds. Finally, he would add his natural flair of unique production elements until the Eccentric Detective sound was complete.

“This album, 101M062 Eccentric Detective, is a special project for 101 Music Pty Ltd®. It was sculpted by James Collins who has a unique flair for composing and producing dramatic music scores using electronica and orchestral elements.
101 Music is honoured to have James as a contributing composer to the catalogue. I first met James a couple of years ago, and recall how impressed I was with his enthusiasm, passion and ability to adapt so quickly to understanding how to write and produce effective production music.
It is with great pride that I release this album as it is an outstanding work of specialized music scores for detective mystery drama with a quirky, cheeky and comedic edge.”
