It was the turn of the XC90 to go through the MoT and unsurprisingly, it failed. 4 of the 5 failures were easily sorted but the last one was fighting me. The rear left shock absorber was leaking (picked up on previous MoTs) and the top nut was fighting me so I ended up farming the job out to CDK Motors. All the UK XC90s have the Nivomat self-levelling shock absorbers which cost over £300 each as they're only available OEM or from the dealer. The workaround is to fit standard shock absorbers and the matching springs. The rear springs have to be matched to the shock absorbers so you can't change them on their own unless you're replacing like for like. With all the work done, it passed the retest and there were NO advisories.
