Rots & Spots. Black Rot, a fungal disease characterized by soft, rotted areas that begin on Orchid leaves or Orchid new growth, then spread to rhizomes and roots. Black rot can spread quickly through an Orchid collection. Root Rot, an Orchid fungal disease that usually enters the plant through the roots.

Make sure to disinfect your toothbrush and any utensils used in this process. Any decaying matter or old media on Orchids you want to remove before placing in new media.
Also, remember that you want to stick with the media the Orchid came with unless the Orchid wasn't reacting positive in your environment.
Use the Hydrogen Peroxide to kill off any fungus you may not see on the Orchid.Let the Orchid dry overnight. Lastly let the Orchid sit in fresh water for 20 minutes before transplant into fresh damp new media.
One last tip is I let my bark soak in water.
