Nepal Flood Heaviest Rain in 24 Hour - Kathmandu Valley in Danger?
The heavy rainfall on Ashoj 11 and 12 caused unprecedented flooding and landslides across Nepal, severely impacting Kathmandu Valley. All entry points to the valley were blocked, and Tribhuvan International Airport flights were suspended due to extreme weather. Kathmandu saw its heaviest rain in 54 years, with areas like Lalitpur receiving over 300mm in one night. The Bagmati River overflowed, causing 35+ deaths in the valley alone, while nationwide, 62 lives were lost. Key highways, including Muglin-Narayanghat and Nagdhunga, were blocked by landslides. Kulekhani Dam overflowed after 31 years, adding to the disaster. Despite weather alerts, rescue operations were delayed, exposing gaps in disaster preparedness and response systems. #nepalrain #kathmandu
