Coyote Eating Cat Caught On Security Camera
This video shows a coyote that had caught a cat then is seen eating and playing with it for quite some time. Coyotes will hunt smaller animals but will also hunt larger animals when travelling in packs. I have filmed a lot of coyotes and have talked to many people that have witnessed them running away with cats in their mouths or eating them. I would like to give pet owners some safety tips on how to keep their pets safe.
1. Coyotes can be found in urban areas even if you do not see them. Most will come out at night to avoid humans.
2. They are mostly active at night so try to avoid leaving your cats outside during this time.
3. Train your cat to enter the house by the back door with a well fenced back yard instead of the front door. Coyotes prefer to scout the streets with unfenced front yards to find their prey.
Note- coyotes can climb a 6 foot fence.
4. If your dog is off leash and you spot a Coyote, leash your dog right away. Pick up your dog if it is small.
Make a loud noise to scare it off. If it still does not leave, pick up an object like a stick or stone and throw it near the coyote. This should be enough to scare the coyote away. Once the coyote is not visible be cautious as it may still be around.
Coyotes are adaptable creatures and they have learned how to hunt successfully in an urban environment.
Coyotes are fascinating and intelligent animals that I love to watch and film. We have to remember that these are wild animals and our pets are a potential food source for them. Educate yourself on how to coexist with urban wild animals and know how to keep your pets safe when outdoors.
