A thought about shield grips.
In spring of 23 Arttu and Joeli were presenting ideas about viking shield combat in HEMAC. (read here: https://hirdmenn.blogspot.com/2023/06... ) At the event someone asked us why the shield bosses (umbos) are so small and, we quickly answered that we don't know. For the love of gods Asante Lawla was present at our workshop and said that he knows why. He gifted us with a shield commonly used in Shastar Vidiya and explained why the shield grips are tight in this martial art. Beautiful stuff.
If one is ever lucky enough to attend Asante's workshops one should go.
