Blog Extract:
You instinctively know when you have just had an amazing session of work, where time stands still, and you’re “in the flow”. Your productivity goes through the roof in this state!

This is the “state” that the Pomodoro Technique is aiming to “put you into” on a much more consistent basis. Simple.

Although it’s simple, there are some profound implications — so read on…

The Pomodoro Method achieves this magical state, by utilising a few key factors:

1 The methodology is simple, easy to remember AND EASY TO START.
(There are very low barriers for its introduction).

2 It forces you to break big, often overwhelming, tasks down into manageable chunks, or an even better description would be, “into sprints”.
This generates immediate wins because it destroys that procrastination devil on your shoulder — each Pomodoro is easy to achieve as it’s only 25-minutes long (everyone can manage 25-minutes!).

What’s also important is that this process starts you on the road to paying more attention to your time; what you spend it on, and where you waste it. You start to get a much better understanding of what can be achieved in 25-minutes.

(As a side effect, you become much better at avoiding the “Planning Fallacy” too — subscribe for a future blog on this).

3 It generates a genuine sense of urgency
i.e., you really want to “get this thing done” and you only have 25-minutes in which to do it. (“Open ended” tasks can be very demotivational.) When applying the Pomodoro Method, you’re basically creating a game with yourself, which can make life more fun as well as more productive.

4 Not only do these factors make you more productive, but you end up “ticking off” more tasks from your list and as a consequence, you’ll build motivation and wellbeing into your working day.
This naturally happens because you “feel” like you are achieving more (as well as ACTUALLY achieving more).

5 Each Pomodoro is a fresh start.
You can start anew to make new strides towards your goals and ambitions. There is something mighty about a fresh start...
