In 1967 this song charted #2 in the UK, #13 in Holland, #22 in Germany. Though the other three members of the band didn't like this song, it became their biggest hit. The child's voice is of Francine Heimann, the daughter of the record producer that had "discovered" "The Spencer Davis Group", the group that Steve Winwood had left before joining Traffic. Traffic was formed in April 1967 and was: Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason. They started as a psychedelic rock group. After disbanding in 1969, during which time Steve Winwood joined "Blind Faith", "Traffic" reunited in 1970. The band's line-up then varied until they disbanded again in 1975. A partial reunion, with Winwood and Capaldi, took place in 1994.
It was the first song Dave Mason wrote.
Dave Mason: guitar, bass, sitar, mellotron, vocals. Jim Capaldi drums, percussion, vocals. Steve Winwood keyboards, guitar, bass, vocals. Chris Wood: flute, saxophone (the instrument that makes me puke), keyboards, vocals.
In 2004 "Traffic" was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
