SURRONS BEING CONFISCATED! // FAST E-BIKE SUBSTITUTE // 4KW CYC X1 VS 25KW SURRON
Yes, sadly it is happening: The police are starting to crack down on Surrons and e-motos. In city after city, due mainly to the idiotic and irresponsible riding of relatively few owners - wheelie-ing through traffic, weaving in and out of cars, hitting cars and pedestrians, blowing thru stop signs and red lights, and generally ignoring all traffic rules and common sense - police are starting to crack down on e-motos. They're stopping more riders, issuing tickets, impounding, and even confiscating bikes.
Because of this sad - but completely predictable - trend, more and more e-moto owners are looking at the possibility of getting a high performance electric bike to use as a more stealthy and less attention-getting alternative to a Surron or e-moto. Fast electric bikes, like my 4kW Canyon Nerve powered by the popular CYC X1 mid drive, are becoming more and more popular alternatives as e-motos are being outlawed in cities across the US and Europe.
But here's the big question: can a fast e-bike REALLY be a substitute for a Surron? Especially a highly-modified one pushing over 25kW of power?
Well, since I've been building fast e-bikes for nearly a decade now, and I'm on my 2nd frame-up high power Surron build in 2 years, I thought that I might be uniquely qualified to answer this very topical question. Can the fast e-bike give you all the fun of an e-moto, without the ever-increasing problems and risk of riding a non street-legal electric motorcycle?
