The Constitution and Lockdowns
Are the many lockdown orders issued by various federal, state and local governments in the United States constitutional? After all, there is no "but" in the Bill of Rights that prohibits free assembly because of a virus. On the other hand, the right to freedom of speech does not allow people to yell fire in a crowded movie theater when there is no fire. Like many things, it's complicated. Evan Gerstmann, a constitutional law professor from Loyola Marymount University, walks us through the current issues being debated and gives us an idea of even bigger civil liberty issues on the horizon.
