Who lives in the Amazon? The Amazon is a very dangerous and fascinating region home to some of the biodiverse species of flora and fauna on the planet, so who are the people brave enough to live there? Today the Amazon region is split between 9 different countries; Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana (France), and is home to nearly 30 million people. Due to migration from groups all around the world during the colonial period and the modern era, Europeans, Africans and Asians have settled in this region and intermixed with the natives to create the modern Amazonian people we see today, although a large number of unmixed indigenous peoples still exist in various pockets throughout the Amazon.
