Structures can fail for many reasons, one of such reasons is Bearing capacity failure in soil.
The maximum load that a soil can safely support is called its bearing capacity. And we can determine this maximum capacity using the plate load test.
In this video : We will look into the plate load test method to determine the bearing capacity and settlement of the soil under a load.
we will be looking at the procedure of the test, different methods of loading (gravity loading and reaction loading), formulas for calculating bearing capacity and settlement of actual footing, results of the test by plotting different graphs (load - settlement curve).
