Over the past 30 years, Microbial Insights has developed over 150 different CENSUS qPCR assays. Due to the complexity of interactions between the microbial community and their environment, we’ve seen that, in many instances, multiple qPCR assays are needed to understand the processes at work in a system.
To make selecting appropriate qPCR assays easy and cost effective for our clients, we introduced the first QuantArray® packages for chlorinated solvent and petroleum hydrocarbon sites a decade ago in 2012, which bundle together 20+ qPCR assays relevant to biodegradation. Since then, Microbial Insights has designed additional QuantArray packages to address microbiologically influenced corrosion (QuantArray®-MIC), natural source zone depletion (QuantArray®-NSZD), and biogeochemical (QuantArray®-BGC) concerns.
This presentation will provide an overview of the five different QuantArray® packages available and offer guidance on how QuantArray® data can be leveraged to reduce uncertainty in site management decisions, saving time and money.

Presenters:
Dr. Kate Clark supervises the daily scientific and technical operations at MI, coordinating with multiple parties, including lab directors, clients, project managers, and technical writers, to ensure that high-quality, accurate results are delivered on time and our high customer service standards are upheld. With expertise and experience ranging from the lab bench to field sites, she is uniquely suited for project development and management — aiding clients from MBT assay selection and study design through reporting and result interpretation. She received her B.S. in Biology from Rhodes College and went on to complete her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa. During her Ph.D. studies, Kate focused on the use of molecular biological tools (MBTs) including qPCR and stable isotope probing (SIP) to assess biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates.

Dr. Sam Rosolina, is the Director of Research and Development. Sam works with each of the laboratories within Microbial Insights and collaborates with experts across multiple industries to continually drive innovation forward. Throughout the development of new molecular biological tools, his focus is a balance of hard science, accessible methods, and actionable data. He received his B.A. in Chemistry from Berea College and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Tennessee. Throughout his Ph.D. research, Sam focused on analysis of trace-level environmental toxins including heavy metals and toxic gases. Detection and quantification of trace contaminants in complex mixtures and media is an especially challenging field requiring not only the development and optimization of innovative new analytical methods but also the establishment of highly rigorous QA/QC procedures for initial and continuing method validation.
