This is a series of photos showing the stages of my painting of the metallic green carpenter bee (Xylocopa aeratus) - an Australian native bee. I will describe the different stages, and there is a video segment where you will see how I apply the paint. The idea of this is not to be a tutorial as such, but to give you an idea of how I work, and how I build up the layers of paint using wet-in-wet, glazing and dry brush techniques.
I'm a natural history illustrator living in Jerrabomberra, near Canberra, Australia. I've been painting botanical watercolours for many years and more recently insects. I teach painting both botanical and insects in watercolour. I'll be sharing with you some demonstration videos and time lapses of paintings I'm working on. Please subscribe if you'd like to keep up with material I'm adding. Thanks for visiting, I hope you enjoy my posts.
