Shermanator II - M4A3E2 Jumbo / M4A1 (76) W / Cobra King - War Thunder
Many underestimate the strength of the Sherman tanks in WT Ground Forces, and granted, some of the tanks in the research tree are pretty weak or improperly battle-ranked.
Personally, I found most of the Sherman tanks to be absolutely lovely. They have good maneuverability, decent front armor (yeah I actually said that lol), and the thing I love the most about them, they are exceptionally good for hull-down fighting.
I know many people think the 60-ish mm front armor on a sherman is crap, but if get your hull down done right, raise your front up a couple of degrees, that sloped 60mm will get an extreme angle and will be very though to crack at a distance.
On the other front as you get higher in the War Thunder Ground Forces US tank research tree, you'll unlock the Jumbo models and the wonderful 76mm gun. Both are exceptional pieces of hardware, even more so when combined.
In this video I'm showcasing how I think the Jumbo (assault tank) should be played properly, and how the M4A1 76mm should be handled.
The Jumbo is an assault tank, if you keep that in mind, and play accordingly, you will have success with it, as you can see in this video. Play it any other way, you won't achieve much. The Jumbo is made for brawling, in-your-face fighting, flanking, and pretty much being as nasty and aggressive as you can. It's an exceptional tank for hardcore players that love to be in the middle of the action.
The single thing I can say to best describe the Jumbo tanks is WAAAAAAAGH!!!
The M4A1 (76) on the other hand, is a great positional mid-range sniper. The 76 mm can penetrate anything in its tier (yes it can also penetrate the front of a tiger if you know where to shoot). Make sure you pack both APHEBC and AP shells. The AP ammo for the 76 mm has slightly higher penetration, which although perfectly logical is not the case with other tanks too (for most other tanks AP ammo is obsolete once you research APHEBC).
