Check out the demo in which the MD80 brushless motor controller is used to control a linear actuator. With such a setup lifting the Honey Badger legged robot is a piece of cake!
The actuator consists of a brushless motor, and an inverted satellite gear enclosed in a compact and lightweight case. It’s able to generate 1kN at 50 mm/s speed.
For smooth operation, trapezoidal motion profile was used in the video, and the external encoder was used as the main one. Such a setup allows to the placement of the MD80 away from the motor shaft, enabling a more compact design of the actuator.
