Leong Mun Wai asks PM Lee if he would commit that the Code of Conduct be applied more stringently
In a recent parliamentary session over the Ridout Road saga, Non-Consituency Member of Parliament, Leong Mun Wai, questioned Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong regarding the perceived conflict of interest in the rental process of two bungalows.
While expressing trust in the government and its procedures, Mr Leong asked if the People's Action Party (PAP) government's code of conduct would be applied more stringently in the future.
In response, PM Lee assured that no actual conflict of interest existed, adding that ministers can rent properties as long as they live within their means and continue their duties with integrity.
He emphasized that the standard of integrity for ministers remains high, pointing to the phrase in the Minister's swearing-in text, "to be a true and faithful minister," and stating "That's what we expect of all ministers."
