Iga-Ueno:
Not too far away from Osaka or Kyoto, you can find a pretty awesome ninja museum and even watch live ninja fights. Right next to it there's also a typical Japanese castle.
Definitely worth a day trip if you're in Kyoto or Osaka anyways.
They use real weapons and you can also try out some of them after the show for a little bit of extra cash. Great experience!
