I am Dr. Hidaia Alassouli. My contract was terminated in Engineering Department at the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai Women College (DWC), and I would like to highlight some abnormal circumferences I met.
I got a work contract in the Faculty of Engineering at the Higher Colleges of Technology for female students in Dubai. The contract of employment is for a three years, with probation period of one semester.
As soon as I arrived, I was placed in a hurdle, where I was not offered any accommodation by university and I was asked to get rental contract while rents were very expensive in Dubai. We were not given any salary in advance to provide housing. I tried to overcome this problem temporarily by staying at one of my relative’s on a monthly rent.
As soon as I arrived, I noticed that I have being targeted. One of the newly hired from Jordan, his name Dr. Taimoure, tried to humiliate me constantly. I had to tell him that I don’t like Jordan people to stop insulting me. Although he insulted me, I was given a warning by university not to talk about nationalities. The warning was given base on group complaints of the new hired teachers under the request of the college for them so they continue safely in the college. Here I understood that I would not continue in colleges as the administration targeting me.
After that, they asked me to teach five classes by head of department Dr. Walid Zegalli , and I was not given any laboratory assistant with me except for one class. I was supposed to teach the course materials and laboratories and mark all tests and quizzes and lab reports.
From first day of teaching in the semester, as soon as I entered the classes and I had to teach 6 hours continuously for three subjects, I got surprised by the strange behavior of students. They came out in the first day to the head of the department, Dr Waleed Zegalli to complain from trivial things, such as I spoke with them in Arabic, and my handwriting is small, and they claimed that l will teach out of syllabus, and claimed that I wrote wrongly a word in english, and other trivial things. I was surprised that the head of the department Dr. called me at 4:00 pm to ask me about these trivial complaints. I have been never bothered by a head of department in such trivialities in my life.
I withstood a lot the bad behavior of the suspicious female students. They dont care about studying hard and they are experienced in the use of all methods of hypocrisy and constantly go to the head of the department to complain about trivial thing. They always tried to force me to give them easy examinations and high grades. They were interested in one thing only, to get grades without any effort. On the other hand, the head of the department was annoying me on a daily basis on the grounds that the students complaints. The other teachers were making their examinations very easy in order to satisfy the students and invited me to make also my exams very easy to continue at the university, but I refused that, and I insisted that I measure their level through comprehensive examinations.
In the seventh week, I surprised that before the end of the drop period, the students dropped my courses in group decision, even those that got high marks in test 1. I left with three classes out of five. In the first class there were two students and the second class four students and in the third class around 16 students.
After the first test in the three subjects, I surprised that the head of the department took my tests and the corrections for review by three moderators. I surprised how this could be, and I did not understand the purpose until I discussed with the three moderators and I found that their goal to push my marks by bypassing the mistakes of students. With all these pressures, I refused to manipulate my grades.
After three months and before the second test date, I have been told that my contract was terminated. I was told that I should not go to teach.
Based on academic integrity, I announce that I am innocent from the final grades in the subjects I taught and withdrawn from me before the second test to manipulate my grades and tests by other teachers. I demand that my name is not placed as his teacher in these materials. I have refused to hand over the materials I have taught and the grades of quizes and laboratories. These courses:
