Detailed guide to setting up an off-axis guider - expert tips and common mistakes
Many astrophotographers, especially beginners, struggle with the correct setup and use of off-axis guiders (OAGs). They often wonder how to properly focus both the main camera and the guide camera, how to best position the OAG, and how to minimize star detection problems. I frequently hear the phrase, "I tried that, but I couldn't find any stars."
In this video, I'll try to explain how an off-axis guider works as clearly as possible. Only by understanding the problem can you effectively use an OAG. A few practical tips round out the video.
