This tutorial on navigating offline with map downloads via google maps should make your navigation of foreign countries much much easier!

________
A couple extra pointers on this travel hack:
- You're going to want to be on WiFi when you download these maps to your phone, they can be quite large! Also, obviously you want to download them to the device you are taking with you (I don't think I need to mention this). Don't worry about taking up space on your phone, like I mentioned, the map will auto-delete after 30 days.
- Make sure you bring a car charger! You're going to be using this device to navigate on the other side of the world and a pretty bad scenario would be your battery dying right in the middle of your journey!
- Print some backup maps as well and just fold them up and throw them in your backpack (the actual route, not maps of the entire country). This way you have an analog option in case things just get way off track (phone died, car charger doesn't work, everything's okay!)
