Running of the Bulls: Anyone Can Do it, Maybe?
We did the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona Spain this July, 2019, because in our minds, we wanted to see if it was more than just injuries and people getting gored.
Turns out, the history of the event, even to include the deaths, is quite interesting. Originally, it was just farmers moving their cattle to the center of town (the market), but young men would move with them and taunt them and get them to run, which added a bit of danger to the simple livestock move (much to the farmers frustration).
This morphed into what it is today.
Now there are packages you can buy, there are balconies you can rent, there are events all day long during the San Fermin festival - of which the Running of the Bulls is just a small part1
We disagree with the killing of the bulls by the bullfighters each evening, but still think the event itself is completely awesome. There are a lot of protests happening to change the event, and we think it needs to change, but it shouldn't be eliminated completely.
