A short time ago I was approached by our colleagues in the London office about a project presentation. They asked if it would be possible to produce something more advanced than the usual 3D exported views from Revit. At the time I was able to create interactive presentations in both real time and virtual reality environments, however, they wanted something that would give a more impressive visual of the design solution for the client.
The project contained several typical MEP arrangements of either apartments, bathrooms or utility cupboards. My approach was to create different sub levels of these and combine them into a single presentation file. By doing this, I could present diverse photorealistic materials and simplify the complexity of the project so our client could gain a clearer understanding of the design solution. I suggested we include VR so they would be able to interact with the model.
The project file was developed in a Revit environment, using BIM elements. By using the Datasmith workflow, I imported the scene in Unreal Engine, created different levels along with the BIM data, which can be viewed by clicking on the different elements within the executable file.
The result was a photorealistic real time environment enriched with all data the manufacturers provided through their 3D models, which added value as the client had an even more immersive experience.
