For today's art piece, I cut five soda boxes into strips using my pasta maker that is retired from food use as well as cutting up 4 soda cans in the same way. Then through the help of my awesome neighbors I collected 240 soda tabs and made sure they were all clean so they didn't get stinky down the line.
I then used my tape glue runner (real glue might be better but I was feeling lazy and only need a solid attachment till the weave was done) to attach three strips together to make the long side of the weave and then weaved together my background which i wrapped around the backing and secured down with vinyl tape .
Separately, I cut the shape out of scrap cardboard and bulked it up using a junk mail I taped onto the cardboard and then using 1/2-in Staples I attached more strips to form a shell for the worm. Next up I used a packing mailer to create a pattern for the worm so I knew exactly how big its surface was and I used that to help me make my chainmail (see the previous video for a step by step on chainmail) the correct size. So that it would fit pretty close to perfect on the worm
But before attaching the chainmail, I stapled on the soda cans strips so that I could weave them through the holes in the chainmail and then weave them through the background weave as well which catch the light in really interesting ways!
Next up I attached the chainmail by connecting the two sides of the back with wire and then attached the worm to the background with a higher gauge wire and some washers in the back to help the wire not loosen over time by ripping the cardboard !

Also, it's not really supposed to be a worm. It's an abstract but how else would you describe it 🪱😂? Lol . I guess it also sort of looks like if a lightning bolt was a pillow ⚡🪱😂
