Dancing lil turkey 🦃🕺
I originally made this project for the company 'Craft Factory', You can see their edit of the footage on their pages. Indeed this is the turkey from 'Friends', It was a fun project, though It is rare for me to make something this referential.
Shrinky dink explanation 🤏 : When 'shrinking plastic' (#6 polystyrene sheets) is created it's extruded at a certain size and then stretched and rapidly cooled to basically freeze the polymers in place , so when we take it to our glass transition temperature. (212°f) we are unfreezing the amorphous polymers and letting them snap back to where they want to be.
🦃+🎩How to: to make this little friend I printed out reference photos of the front, the back and the side as well as one photo at scale. while I use Apoxie, polymer clay would likely work just as well. Apoxie sculpt will likely cure before you're totally done so you'll have to work in chunks, polymer clay needs to be baked. there are pros and cons to both.
🦃I made the body by wrapping Apoxie around a ball of tin foil, and used metal wire to make the wings and legs, both to make it slightly easier to attach them to the body and to reinforce the limbs so they don't break off . Then once that's all done I painted it up with acrylic paint and sealed it with UV resin (mostly just so it was super waterproof. Though there are many sealers that would be fine for lighter uses like ModPodge)
🎩For the hat, I used a little cylinder of Apoxie and rolled out the middle with a pencil eraser. Then once it was cured i drilled a little hole for the tassel and took a gold twist tie I had lying around, and cut of the gold material into lil strips on both sides leaving the middle intact, fold it down one side into the other so it looks more like a broom and use the side that's now just wire to glue into the hat hole.
How to 🕶️: The sizing on this is difficult, it might take a few tries. using commercial shrinky dink material or clean recycled #6 plastic (such as aluminum foil togo container lids,) trace out glasses . I used Sharpie for the lenses so they would stay transparent and Posca paint pens for the frames so they would be opaque. Then cut them out with scissors and shrink them using 250 ° f. Next using a heat gun you can heat just where you want the frames to bend. Check out my other videos on shrinky dinks to go more in depth (or search engine it)
Ps: a dremel/ rotary tool is very useful for cleaning things up.
