Where does journalism go after Donald Trump? This webinar is a discussion about the book "News After Trump: Journalism's Crisis of Relevance in a Changed Media Culture," as the authors make sense of how journalists covered Trump and how Trump attacked journalists to support his political goals. The authors, Matt Carlson (University of Minnesota), Sue Robinson (University of Wisconsin), and Seth C. Lewis (University of Oregon), argue that what has emerged is a crisis of relevance for journalists unsure about their place in society and divided about how to respond to the political, technological, and cultural changes happening around them. Given this turmoil, they propose that journalists adopt a stronger moral voice that recognizes their role in protecting democracy against a host of threats that did not go away just because Trump left office.
