how big is the universe? science projectImagine the biggest thing you know... and then multiply it. By a billion. By a trillion. And still, you'd barely scratch the surface of our universe. Our home, Earth, is just a tiny dot in our solar system. But even our solar system is microscopic in our galaxy—the Milky Way. The Milky Way alone holds around 100 billion stars. And beyond it? There are billions more galaxies, each with billions of stars.
Right now, scientists believe the universe stretches over 93 billion light-years across. That means, if you traveled at the speed of light, it would take you 93 billion years to cross it.
And yet, the universe is still expanding. Every second, galaxies drift further apart. It’s like an endless cosmic balloon, inflating with no end in sight.
So… how big is the universe? We may never know. But maybe that’s the most amazing part: we're part of something endless, something mysterious, something… infinite.
