Addressing age-related cataract blindness is a priority objective for the Global Action Plan 2014-19, particularly in low and middle-income countries. Prevalence data in blindness and visual impairment is essential to advocate for the improvement and expansion of eye care services. As multiple variations in prevalence can be seen across any one country, we need to use rapid assessment methods to obtain localised epidemiological information.
