Lunar ExoCam - Demo [V1] is the first terrestrial product development prototype for the ExoCam remote imaging system. This groundbreaking new space-based payload series is a remotely deployable camera & sensor system design concept which will operate in tandem with NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services [CLPS] providers, set for launch in 2021-2022. Further development will reach to Mars, Venus, and other solar system bodies of interest including the moons of Jupter, Saturn, asteroids and comets, perhaps even to one day

As a lander enters into final vertical descent stage, the unit activates and deploys, recording hi-frame-rate video as it falls to a final impact on the lunar regolith. Continuing throughout impact on the surface, Lunar ExoCam will capture video as the lander makes its final touchdown. Various sensors on board the unit will work in tandem with the camera system to concurrently measure lunar regolith / dust plume migration effects from scattering caused by retropropulsive thrust, all the while contributing vital in situ data back to the Lunar & Planetary Science community for analysis and future modeling.

The ExoCam payload series seeks to revitalize and the wonder and excitement of mankind's quest, both to visit new worlds and reconquer familiar ones. It will display a new vision and thriling perspective of landmark colonization and human settlement efforts on solar system bodies, paving the way for important technical developments and science growth. Primary areas of initial scientific significance will include plume analysis for future landing emplacements and ground-truth awareness to inform risk-adversity, particularly for human colonization of more remote worlds.
