How to Use VLOOKUP in Salesforce Validation Rule
In this video, I will be showing you how you can use Salesforce vlookup in your validation rule for enforcing data quality.
Vlookup only applies to salesforce validation rule.
This returns a value by looking up a related value on a custom object similar to the VLOOKUP() Excel function. This function is only available in validation rules.
Before creating vlookup validation rule. Ensure you have a custom object with appropriate custom fields and field values for reference.
Make sure the record name has the values you want to have it referenced. Using Text datatype is highly recommended since it is versatile.
Syntax: VLOOKUP (field_to_return, field_on_lookup_object, lookup_value).
field_to_return must be an auto number, roll up summary, lookup relationship, master-detail relationship, checkbox, date, date/time, email, number, percent, phone, text, text area, or URL field type.
