How to Make Your Cat Love You
1. Cat & Mouse Games
Those claws aren’t there to only wreak havoc on upholstery. A cat is a highly skilled hunter; they have an innate sense for combat with prey. And being a feline, your cat loves to hone those skills, especially with you as a training partner. Luckily, this is easy to do. Toy mice, laser lights, string -- there are tons of cute, fun, and inexpensive toys available for kitties (that should be played with under your supervision, as strings can easily be ingested and cause medical emergencies). Not only do they keep your cat fit and healthy, but they provide you both with quality “together time” that will make your cat love spending time with you.
2. Cats Love Massage
Simply stroking your cat, from nose to tail, gives an all-over feel-good massage that lowers a cat's blood pressure and yours. Pay special attention to the places he likes best, such as the base of the tail and under the cheeks. Touching, petting, and massaging your cat also serves as a well-cat check to find any fur mats, lumps or bumps or sores that need medical attention.
3. Slow Blinks And Head Bonks
Cats use head bunting to show affection even in the wild. It’s not just a scent marking thing, it’s a way of showing respect and trust. A cat whose head is down is a bit more vulnerable, and exposing that vulnerability to you means your kitty trusts you completely. The same can be said of slow blinking. If a cat is willing to slowly close her eyes in front of you, she really feels comfortable. You can return these signs of affection from your cat, too, and your cat will definitely get the message. Present your forehead for some soft bonks and blink your eyes slowly to see if your cat bonks and blinks back.
4. Respect and get to know your cat
Cats have different personalities. Thus, there are more sociable cats and others are more solitary that, for example, they hide when people visit. This way, you should not force your cat to do something they do not want, especially when they are afraid. Respecting their space and privacy is essential to making your cat happy.
Some cats do not want to be caught, for example, then why do? The more you force your cat, the less they will want to stay by your side, since they will begin to associate you with negative experiences. Cats have an excellent memory, both for the good and bad!
5. Purr-fect Snacks
Let’s face it, we all love to snack. But your cat depends on you to make the right choice when it comes to her snack time, so be responsible. Your human snack food is not good for cats. Head down to the local pet store (maybe try holistic) and buy responsibly. Keep the dry pellet snacks to a minimum and give your pet some lean protein instead. She’ll go crazy for those freeze-dried pieces of chicken or lamb, and she’ll reward you by living a longer, healthier life full of love for you. You'll also want to take into account the calories of the treats, and balance it out with a smaller portioned meal. Putting on weight is a lot easier than taking it off, and obesity causes a lot of medical problems.
6. Proper Introductions
Cats are creatures of habit and a new pet entering the home can make your cat question your love. With proper introductions, your cat may actually agree that the new kitten/dog/cat/rabbit was a loving gift after all.
7. Try Some Training
Contrary to what some people think, cats are very trainable. In fact, they’re probably bored when they go for a long time without mental stimulation. Training will allow you to strengthen your bond and your understanding with your cat and will also allow you to reward your kitty for a job well done. Your rewards will help your cat see you as a provider, and she’ll know that she can count on you. This will help build your relationship, and before long your cat will be feeling all the love.
