Route History
Route 178 began on 27th September 1980, the original route was actually Thamesmead to Woolwich via the current 177 and the route was run from Abbey Wood Garage and a year later moved to Plumstead Garage.

In 1984 it was extended to Lewisham Station via Kidbrooke and 16th January 1988 the route transferred to Bexleybus at Bexleyheath Garage which is now a ceased operator, however in 1991 all the routes run by Bexleybus were transferred to London Central including the Garage.

In 1994 the route was shortened to Kidbrooke Station, only to be re-extended to Lewisham Station on 24th January 2004 replacing the 278 Lewisham Station - Kidbrooke, this time serving the Ferrier Estate, Moorhead Way and Queen Elizabth Hospital.

On 23rd January 1999 the route was awarded to Stagecoach London returning to Plumstead Garage and on 18th March 2006 the route was transferred to Catford Garage after the 181 & 284 losses, where it settled until lost to Go Ahead London on 7th December 2018 running from New Cross Garage with double deckers, on 29th June 2019 the route moved to Morden Wharf Garage which was always the intended location of the route when awarded to Go Ahead London.
