A very common question among patients who have undergone any type of knee surgery is the best sleeping position. The operated knee needs to be rested and in a position that is comfortable and pain-free. The two best positions are: supine and lateral. The secret is to use a small pillow or cushion between your knees. When supine, the pillow should be under the operated knee. When lateral, the pillow should be between both knees. In the lateral position, it is best to have the operated knee on top of the other knee. You can buy a special type of medical pillow at specialty stores that has straps to keep it close to your legs.
