The New Uruguay new polymer banknotes denominated 20 Peso and 50 Pesos
The Banco Central del Uruguay also known as the central bank of Uruguay announced today as being Within the framework of Heritage Day on Oct 3rd 2020 it will open its doors from 11:00 to 17:00 and will put into circulation the new low-denomination 20 Pesos and 50 Pesos bills which are polymer banknotes.
These banknotes, made of polymer substrate, have attributes of greater durability than the current ones, incorporate new security elements and are accessible to read for people with different disabilities, since the smaller the denomination, the smaller the size of the banknote.

On the obverse on the 20 Pesos is the portrait of Juan Zorilla de San Martín who was a Catholic Uruguayan epic poet – he is referred to as the "National Poet of Uruguay" – and political figure
And on the obverse id the 50 Pesos is the portrait of José Pedro Varela was an Uruguayan sociologist, journalist, politician, and educator due to his efforts Uruguay adopted free, compulsory, and secular education in 1876.
The design of the new notes is similar to that of the current notes. The notes are of different sizes, as opposed to the previous family of notes which were all of the same size.The 20 pesos note will be smaller than the current ones. The 50 pesos will have the same size as the commemorative note issued in September.
They are dated 2021.
The presentation will take place at the Museum of the Central Bank, and collectors are invited to attend. They will be allowed to obtain up to ten pieces of each denomination by presenting the same number of notes of the old family.
The Banco Central del Uruguay has started with the preparations for the introduction of two new polymer banknotes in 2020.
Those who visit the Central Bank of Uruguay on Oct 3rd day will be able to access the new banknotes on a polymer substrate through the exchange operation. The current 20 Pesos or 50 Pesos cotton bills will be accepted. In this instance, coins will not be accepted for the exchange and a maximum of 10 bills will be exchanged per person, the amount being delivered must match the amount withdrawn.
