This was originally presented at DevOpsDays Raleigh (https://devopsdays.org/events/2021-ra...) on April 8, 2021.

They say opposites attract and when Dev and Ops first met, it was as dramatic as any classic telenovela. They had a destination wedding in tropical Ghent and became inseparable. Everywhere you looked it was always DevOps, but never one without the other.

But marriages are dynamic and over time little things began to chip away at their relationship. Ops would often complain that Dev spends too much and would blow the error budget. Soon, every minor P4 would escalate into a P0. Dev began to look outside the marriage & experimented with serverless. Eventually it ended in divorce and an ugly, bitterly fought custody battle over their children, QA and SRE.

But you can avoid this fate!

In this session, we’ll take a look at the common challenges facing the DevOps relationship and how to address them. I’ll discuss strategies for setting mutual goals and promoting engagement that lead to stronger DevOps marriages and more robust systems.
