Why the Romans Settled in the West but not the East
Why did large numbers of Roman veterans and other colonists settle in the Western half of the Roman empire such as Gaul, Iberia and the Maghreb, but a much smaller number settled in the Eastern half (outside of Dalmatia and Dacia in the Balkans)? In this short, we're going to be quickly discussing why the Western Roman Empire received a much higher number of Latin settlers when compared to the East and how this led to the stark cultural, linguistic and religious differences between these two civilizations.
