Turbo Boosted Diesel Car
In the latter half of the 1970s, JNR, struggling with enormous deficits due to its lax management and declining ridership, sought ways to effectively utilize existing rolling stock.
While expectations were placed on tilting EMUs and tilting gas turbine cars, methods to speed up operations without significant budget increases were also explored.
One such proposal was to boost speeds on non-electrified lines by coupling gas turbine boosters to DMU express and limited express trains, helping them ascend inclines.
