Professor Adejoke Jibowo is of the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. She discusses the state of teaching and learning the English Language in Nigeria.
She cautioned against attempts towards developing Nigerian English as against teaching students to be competent in English as a second language. She noted that the choice of Nigerians to keep using English in official communications has further strengthened the chauvinism of English in Nigeria and until Nigerian decide to develop their local languages to be official, English would not be irrelevant in the scheme of things.
