Chau Paris is a tango by Astor Piazzolla (1921 - 1992). Piazzolla, who was born in Mar del Plata in Argentina into a family enthusiastic about tango, spent his youth in New York, where he was more fascinated by the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and jazz, before the family returned to Argentina in 1937. Through various biographical changes, Piazzolla himself became a tango interpreter on the bandoneon. Dissatisfied with the status quo, Piazzolla decided to study classical composition with Nadja Boulanger in Paris. Here he initially concealed his origins in the tango milieu out of shame, until Nadja Boulanger encouraged him to stand by his origins and continue composing tangos. Piazzolla wrote Tango Chau Paris in 1955 after finishing his studies with Nadja Boulanger, when he decided to leave Paris again and return to Argentina.
