RX0II VS EOS R50 Cloudy Day
This is a comparison between both cameras before and after a color grade, and zooming in to 3 areas of the image. The Canon EOS R50 has the Loawa 10mm f/2 cookie lens, the Sony RX0II has the Azure Photonics 6.5mm F1.4 C-mount lens.
Sony RX0II Settings:
4K UHD 24p 8-bit
Sharpness: Lowest
Picture Profile: Custom (Cine2, but more log-like)
Canon EOS R50 Settings:
4K UHD 24p 10-bit HDR PQ
Sharpness: Lowest
Picture Profile: Neutral (with contrast and saturation further reduced)
Color Grade:
Both clips had basic RGB brightness balanced out, increased saturation, and sharpening applied.
Notes:
In general the Canon EOS R50 has a superior image to the RX0II in most ways. The only advantage of the RX0II image is that it was easier to get more detail in the cloudy sky for some reason. With the R50 footage I struggled to get depth and contrast in the clouds. Both camera codecs were easy to playback, scrub through, and color grade in Adobe Premiere. Despite the H.265 codec of the R50 and 170Mbps bitrate, I was still able to edit the Canon footage without having to transcode the clips to an intermediate codec. My laptop has an NVIDIA RTX A4000 GPU, Intel Xeon W-11855M CPU @ 3.20GHz, and 32MB of RAM so if you don't have a high end workstation, your editing experience may be different.
