This week I pick up some pine boards and attempt to turn them into a ceiling for my van. I cut them down the middle, then plane, cut, sand, and stain them. I make quite a few mistakes—particularly with the sanding. I come to realize how patient and methodical you have to be, or the swirl marks will get you. Anyway, I’m pretty happy with how it turns out. I’m going for a “Grandma’s Basement in 1978” vibe, and it feels close enough.
