This exercise is designed to help get the modes into your fingers/ears and help lay the groundwork to connect them fluidly across the fretboard. The circled numbers under the scale indicates the fingering. If you memorize the fingering then these scales will begin to look more like shapes then notes and you can change them to other keys with ease. The end of the video is a chart showing the connection of modes to diatonic harmony and a few examples of what that looks like in a couple of keys.

I recommend putting this video into https://www.tunetranscriber.com/, a great free website that makes it easy to loop sections and slow the tempo down! You can also adjust the tempo in the settings section on the youtube tool bar. The metronome is set at 85 BPM.
