Let's dupe the famous Ganni tie top! In this video I use my Syd Tie Top & Dress pattern as a base so you don't need to self-draft anything! The pattern is available in sizes 0-34 (31"-61" Bust, 24"-54" Waist and 34"-65" Hip). I have of course deviated a bit from my original pattern (as outlined in the video), see below for the comprehensive list of pattern piece changes.
Syd Tie Top & Dress Pattern: https://sydgraham.com/products/syd-ti...
Pattern Pieces Changes:
(A) Front Bodice & (B) Back Bodice
Cut at dress bodice length
(G) Skirt/Peplum Bottom
Three pieces, one back (on the fold), two front
Back skirt is the same width as the Top Tier Skirt (G), cut on the fold
Length is subjective, I’m cutting mine 10.5” long, sits a couple inches above the widest point of my hips after folding the hem
Front is two separate pieces, same width as the top tier skirt + 3/8”
(D) Binding
Fold to dress cut line
extend length of peplum minus 1/2” seam allowance. For mine, extend 10” (10.5” minus 0.5”)
My total binding length is 32.25” (22.25” originally, adding 10”)
(E) Sleeve
Shorten, measure down from the top of the sleeve curve 16”
I got 16" from measuring the top of my shoulder to my elbow, adding 3/8” for the shoulder seam and 3/4” for the hem (1 1/8” total), I rounded up to 1 1/2” total added to be safe
Elastic
Cut mine 14”
Measure the circumference of your arm where the sleeve will hit, add the desired ease, keep in mind the overlap
(C) Ties
Original 12.5” x 1.5”
New 8.5” x 2.5”
Cut 6 total
Fabric Requirements:
See the fabric requirement chart included in the pattern. I would add about 1/4-1/2 yard to be safe for the peplum!
Suitable Fabrics:
For this pattern, our top recommendation would be a woven cotton or linen with a moderate or fluid drape between 3-7 oz per square yard. Stiffer fabrics with a voluminous drape can be used, but may result in a “poofier” garment. Knit fabrics with a lot of stretch are not recommended, as they can cause the binding construction to be quite tricky.
